The 2001 Four Corners Iron Horse Motorcycle Rally saw
fewer participants and fewer glitches than last year, according to
law-enforcement officials and rally organizers.

A total of 25,386 rally admission armbands was sold
for the four-day event, compared to last year’s approximately 30,000
participants, according to rally-board president Warren Bernard.

The Cortez Police Department responded to one
motorcycle crash with minor injuries and assisted the Colorado State
Patrol with a minor disturbance related to a traffic stop in the
Golden Corral parking lot, according to CPD Chief Roy Lane.

The Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office responded to
no rally-related incidents over the holiday and made no DUI arrests,
according to Sheriff’s Detective Lt. Kalvin Boggs.

The Colorado State Patrol reported three fatality
motorcycle wrecks, and several area motor-vehicle accidents in
addition to numerous traffic stops, according to CSP Capt. Allen
TeBrink.

The Cortez office of the CSP responded to two
motorcycle-related crashes on Sunday, according to CSP Trooper Steve
Keller.

The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office responded to
421 incidents on Saturday and 298 Sunday, according to Sheriff’s Lt.
Dan Bender. None of the incidents was described as serious. Forty-six
DUI arrests were made in La Plata County over the holiday.

No motorcycles were reported stolen — a first for
the rally’s nine-year run.
Despite the lower attendance, area businesses reported
full hotels and busy restaurants with overflowing parking lots and
campgrounds. |
