Aug 18, 2001 The Colorado Department of Transportation continues to assess the damage to road work on state Highway 184 caused by recent mudslides. CDOT projects the work on the 13-mile highway-improvement project west of Telluride will most likely continue through September. During the remainder of construction, delays of up to 30 minutes from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. are expected to continue Monday through Saturday and an occasional Sunday, if necessary. Crews will work this Sunday, so they can halt all construction activity on the highway Monday through Wednesday, when thousands are expected to travel to Telluride for a Bob Dylan concert. During construction activity, the Colorado State Patrol will continue its added presence within and around the work zone to help increase safety for motorists, as well as highway workers. More than 4 inches of rain fell on the Telluride valley floor in less than an hour on Aug. 8, according to some reports, causing major mudslides and stranding more than 100 vehicles on the highway for as much as six hours. |
