Aug. 7, 2001 Three people were transported to the hospital after they were struck by lightning at Cortez’s Conquistador Golf Course late Monday afternoon. Critically injured was a 15-year-old boy from California who suffered burns and a head injury, according to a spokesperson at Southwest Memorial Hospital. The boy’s brother, 11, and father, 53, were also struck and suffered burns. Both were in stable condition Monday evening. The names of the victims had not been released as of press time. An employee at the golf course refused comment about the incident and would not disclose where on the course the three lightning victims were when they were struck. She did, however, state that golfers had been advised to get off the course because of the dangerous storm. "They were told twice," she said. |
