Utah seeks comments from park visitors

July 26, 2001

Utah state park visitors are urged to comment on proposed fees for 2002 and 2003, which include increases in day-use, camping, reservation, and golf fees. According to Utah State Parks Director Courtland Nelson, the proposed fee increase is due in part to cuts in legislative funding and mandates to cover a greater percentage of operating costs without closing parks.

The Board of Utah State Parks and Recreation met in Midway last week to review the proposed fee schedule. Board members delayed action on fees until public comment could be reviewed. The board will reconvene Wednesday, Aug. 29.

The proposed plan includes the following:

Multiple Park Permit: Current: $65 Proposed: $85

Day-Use Fees at Highly-Used Parks: Current: $6 Proposed: $7

Day-Use Group Site Fees: Current: $1 Proposed: $2

Reservation Fee: Current: $6.25 Proposed: $7

Campsites w/some amenities: Current: $10-$17 Proposed: $11-$17

Campsites w/hookups: Current: $19 Proposed: $20

Nine holes - Wasatch Mountain Golf Course: Current: $10 Proposed: $11 - $12

The proposed fee schedule is available for review at http://parks.state.ut.us  or by calling (801) 538-7220 for a copy. Individuals may comment by email at feecomments@nrdpr.state.ut.us  or by letter addressed to Utah State Parks P.O. Box 146001 in Salt Lake City, Utah 84114-6001 or via telephone at (801) 538-7220.
