July 14, 2001 Come "Celebrate Cortez" on Saturday, July 21! Merchants are gearing up to offer special bargains — along with good, clean fun — to shoppers as part of the annual Krazy Daze tradition. Browse through all of downtown, enjoying the zany good will, savings, and a variety of activities! Opportunities include the Farmers’ Market on Market St., starting at 7 a.m. Grab up fresh produce, baked goods, crafts flowers and other items. Kids will have a grand old time at the annual Chautauqua celebration, to be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Montezuma Park (Market and Montezuma Ave.). Cowboy poets and country music will entertain all comers, as will the Keen-Aged Kitchen Band and dulcimer music provided by local artists. The Cortez Whirlwinds will demonstrate their jump roping skills, and the Four Corners Dancers invite one and all to join in some good old fashioned square dancing. As part of Celebrate Cortez, Anna Britt of Durango will have a "speed climbing wall"; a kids’ carnival is offered, as well as the chance to view vintage firetrucks and rip, roarin’ roadsters, displayed by the Hi-Altitude Steel Car Club. The Whirlwinds will also perform as part of the celebration, as will Native American dancers, at City Park. Various non-profit organizations will also be on hand with informational booths and activities. Festival T-shirts will be available at participating local merchants. For more information, please phone the Cortez Area Chamber of Commerce at 565-3414, or Gary at City Hall at 565-3402. |
