June 21, 2001 A Dolores man was arrested in Farmington Tuesday for allegedly robbing a downtown convenience store at gunpoint, according to the Farmington Daily Times. Steven Cates, 35, was captured by police after allegedly robbing the Shell Amigo Mart on Main Street and then fleeing in a car during rush-hour traffic, the Daily Times reported. He is being charged with armed robbery and multiple traffic violations by Farmington police. According to reports cited in the Daily Times, officers caught up with the suspect, who then held his hands out the window, only to drive off again as officers approached. Blocked by traffic stopped at a red light, Cates surrendered. Police said that at the time of the arrest, Cates was in possession of the money taken from the alleged robbery, the newspaper reported. A black BB gun resembling a Colt .45 and a black baseball cap matching witness descriptions were also found after a search of the vehicle. |
