Orange-barrel season opens on area roads

The Colorado Department of Transportation announces construction projects for the area.

Ongoing: Repaving project on US 160, beginning just east of the intersection at County Road 501 in Bayfield and extending west to the Florida River. The project is anticipated to run through mid-August, and motorists can expect travel delays of up to 20 minutes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Work will be suspended for the holidays and holiday weekends. US 160, west of Durango: Through June, final shoulder work on 14-mile reconstruction project west of Durango; minimal or no delays.

US 550 State Line North: Through June, final work and paving on 3.6 mile reconstruction project at the New Mexico state line; minimal delays.

US 666 Cahone to Utah State Line: Through October, 17-mile paving project; up to 15-minute delays.

US 160 Mancos Temporary Signal: Through July, installation of temporary traffic signal (prior to future intersection improvements); up to 20-minute delays.

SH 145 Telluride West: Through August, pavement overlay, drainage and guardrail work; up to 20-minute delays.

US 160 Wolf Creek Pass at Treasure Falls (west side): Through September, major highway reconstruction from show shed to Treasure Falls; delays of up to 20 minutes.

US 160 Wolf Creek Pass Tunnel (east side): Through May 2002, construction of a 950-foot tunnel east of the summit requires full night closures of the pass between mile markers 173.9 and 174.7, Monday though Thursday; also daytime delays of up to 45 minutes, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

US 160 at Piedra Road, Pagosa Springs: June through August, intersection improvements/signal installation, up to 15-minute delays.
