The day that many students have anticipated since the beginning of the school year finally arrived. May 25 was the last day of school for students at Montezuma-Cortez High School as well as other schools in the district.

So what big plans do students have for the summer?

"Just hanging out," said soon-to-be sophomore Jared Gaasch.

Cody Allmon plans to have fun but he’ll be busy too, as he works as a baseball umpire and with irrigation.

Cassandra Martin, who just finished her freshmen year, was happy with how the school year went.

"It was a good year and it’s a good school," said Martin.

As for summer plans she will be traveling to Oregon.

Although Kyle Boblitt described his sophomore year as "bad," he is nevertheless excited about the break.

"I’m glad to get out of the school," he said. "I’m going to work and play."

Boblitt will spend the summer working at Cliffrose.

Katie Lewis says she’s "really excited" for the summer and will work at the Anasazi Restaurant.

It was Greg Oswald, who just wrapped up his freshmen year, who captured the essence of summer.

"I can’t wait for summer," said Oswald. "I can go hang out with my friends and not have to worry about homework."
