2 seriously injured in crash

TWO PASSENGERS in this Audi suffered serious injuries in a collision on Highway 145 Thursday afternoon when the car was struck by a northbound Ford Explorer. The drivers of both vehicles escaped serious harm.

Two Montezuma-Cortez High School students suffered serious injuries Thursday afternoon in a crash on Highway 145 near County Road P.

A northbound Ford explorer driven by Kelley Evans, 40, of Dolores, veered into the southbound lane when Evans’ glanced away from the road. The minor driver of an Audi sedan swerved into the oncoming lane to avoid the Explorer, which struck the side of the car when Evans corrected back toward her own lane. The cars collided on the passenger sides.

Neither driver was injured seriously, but a female passenger in the Audi was ejected in the crash. She was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Durango. A male riding in the back seat was extricated by volunteers from the Dolores Fire Department and was airlifted to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction. A third passenge was not injured. The names of the minors were not released.
