Mar. 22, 2001 Journal Staff Report Police have arrested four juveniles and two adults suspected of being involved in an armed robbery early Monday morning of the Comfort Inn in Cortez, said Sgt. Allan Schofield of the San Juan County, N.M., Sheriff’s Office. All six suspects are from Farmington and were arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery, Schofield said. Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office Detective Lt. Kalvin Boggs said the two adults, Zachary Sullivan and Albert Gutierrez, will likely remain in jail in New Mexico because of additional charges in San Juan County stemming from a search warrant. However, the four juveniles have waived extradition and will be transported to the nearest juvenile detention center in Durango. "We’ll be transporting them to Durango tomorrow," he said. Boggs said the charges for each individual will vary according to participation. "For sure, one charge that will fit them all will be conspiracy to commit armed robbery." Eugene Zubrzycki, owner of the Comfort Inn, said four people wearing masks came into the hotel around 1:30 a.m. Monday and confronted an employee. The robbers were armed with a pistol and a shogun. They escaped in a car driven by two other suspects with $260 in cash, he said. No one was injured in the incident. |
