Feb. 17, 2001 It’s a done deal. The Cortez Safeway Food and Drug Store will join the supermarket lineup on Wednesday, March 7, public-affairs director Jeff Stroh announced. The 55,000-square-foot store will be staffed by about 30 full-time and 90 part-time local workers, and will feature an in-store pharmacy, banking services, deli and bakery with a separate entrance; produce department and expanded natural-foods selection; meat department and full-service seafood department. In honor of the store’s grand opening, slated for 8 a.m. March 7, Safeway will make a $5,000 donation to Montezuma-Cortez High School through the company’s "Because Safeway Cares" program. The donation will be utilized in a remodeling project at the MCHS commons area. Safeway will also sponsor giveaway contests for the grand opening with such prizes as a 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle, DVD player and groceries. |
