Jan. 25, 2001 Two directors will be elected at the May 5 Annual Members Meeting in Mancos, according to Neal Stephens, general manager of Empire Electric Association, Inc. Any member or incumbent seeking election to Empire’s board of directors must follow the following procedures. Nominations for all candidates, including incumbents, are by petition only, on forms provided by Empire. Petitions must include the candidate’s name, physical address, director district, term and signature of 15 members living within the nominating district. Candidates must file a nominating petition with the secretary at 801 N. Broadway, Cortez, not less than 45 days nor more than 90 days before the annual meeting (Feb. 5 through March 21). The secretary will post a list of nominees 45 days before the meeting. Bylaw provisions adopted Sept. 27, 1986, provide for election of directors by mail or by "in-person" balloting at the annual meeting. In-person votes cast at the annual meeting would revoke mail ballots. Empire’s members will receive a postage-paid, mail ballot by April 20. Members must execute and return the secret ballot in the secret-ballot envelope by April 30. Secret mail ballots are taken to the annual meeting for counting along with ballots cast in person to determine election results. Directors with terms expiring in 2001 are: Jack N. Young, District 1: Monticello, Utah, and surrounding Utah areas. In Colorado, areas west of Highway 666 and north of Montezuma County/Dolores County Line. (Four-year term). Raymond Doyel, District 2: This district lies in Montezuma, Dolores, and San Miguel counties. The area is east of Highway 666 from Montezuma County Road P to the northern end of Empire’s territory. A director-district map is available for reference at Empire’s office, 801 N. Broadway. Anyone needing more information or a candidate petition may contact Denise Rosenbaugh or Neal Stephens at Empire Electric during normal business hours. |
