Nov. 9, 1999 Journal Staff Report A 50-year old woman who jumped from a truck that was sliding off an icy stretch of the Willow Divide Road south of Dunton died from injuries sustained after becoming pinned underneath the vehicle, the Colorado State Patrol reported. The driver, Dolores resident Charles Douglas, was unharmed in the crash, which has been ruled an accident. Passenger Marty Weikert, 50, of Tempe, Ariz., became entangled with the Ford truck she jumped from, which then skidded 180 degrees and crashed down a steep embankment on top of her early in the morning, Nov. 3. Douglas jacked up the truck to free the injured Weikert and quickly met up with Southwest Memorial rescue crews who transported her to San Juan Regional in Farmington via Air Care One, reported CSP Trooper Steve Nowlin. She died the next day. |
