Farm Bureau plans meeting, dinner and great entertainment

Everyone is invited to a country evening of good food, great music, door prizes and fun at the San Juan Basin Farm Bureau annual get-together Nov. 13, at the Cortez Elks Lodge.

The evening begins with an information meeting of the board of directors at 5 p.m. with information from Colorado Farm Bureau Director of Information Karen Salaz and State Board member Jim Porter.

District 8 State Women’s Committee member Nellie Donovan will discuss the plans for Colorado Farm Bureau Annual Meeting and the upcoming National Women’s Conference in May in Colorado Springs. Legislative and policy development updates will also be given.

Additionally, election of officers for the coming year will be held, along with election of directors for two year terms. Current officers are Lynn Harvey, president; Sid Snyder, vice president, and Dorothy Porter, secretary, County Women’s Chairman is Landis Porter and County Young Farmer and Rancher Chairman is Scott Mahaffey.

Current directors are Peter Dericks, Janice Harvey, Gene Donovan, Anna Ruth Koppenhafer, John McHenry, James Porter, Joe Mahaffey, John Sutcliffe, Harvey Young, Jim Mitchell, Nellie Donovan, Rick Turner, Jay Allen and Charlie Lichliter.

Dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a delicious buffet dinner prepared by the Cortez Elks Lodge.

The Bar D Chuckwagon will entertain with their famous and fun stage show. The very talented musicians will delight you with the musical skills and comedy of Cy Scarborough, the yodeling of Bob Misner, the bass voice of Jerry Baxter, and the flat top guitar of champion Gary Cook.

The evening doesn’t end until you have danced to the great country music of talented local musician, Donny Johnson, who has been entertaining folks for at least 30 years. He is well-known in the Four Corners area, having played with several bands and done a lot of solo entertaining.

Johnson is a very talented "group of one" and plays a variety of music, He has traveled around the country with his music and remains a favorite of his many fans. He entertains at many events, so don’t hesitate to give him a call when you need some good music to listen or dance to.

Door prizes and drawings will be held throughout the evening, and there will as always be table favors for al those attending the dinner.
