period of declining health.
Jack was born in a log cabin on the "dry side"
west of Marvel, Colo., to George Stockton and Sophia Oldfield. He grew up
on the family homestead farm and graduated from Marvel High School in 1938.

enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on a destroyer minesweeper in the
Pacific theater during World War II.

underground at the Green Mountain Mine. In 1952, they moved to Farmington
and Jack went to work in the oil field. He worked for El Paso Natural Gas
Company for 30 years.

side, and farming became his full-time avocation after retiring from El
