Today the Cortez Area Chamber of Commerce's Economic Development Committee is going to Naturita to tour the new energy businesses that are emerging there. We leave the chamber office at 10:30 a.m. to be back in time for the Taste of the Seasons tonight at Four Seasons Greenhouse & Nursery (benefiting United Way).

Vectra Bank is hosting a soup lunch on Friday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. benefiting United Way. Soup is all homemade and so good.

Saturday you won't know what to do first! There is the Dolores Community Centers' Christmas Bazaar, Santa arrives at Four Seasons, There is storytelling at Let It Grow, wreath making at Cliffrose, Cortez Cash sale at Kokopelli Bike and Board, and the Realtors Parade of Lights.

Sunday the 2nd, the Mancos Valley Chorus, including several members of the now defunct Choralaires, will perform at the Mancos United Methodist Church at 3:30 p.m.

We have scheduled a special Birding Festival meeting for Monday the 3rd at 5:30 to finalize the tours for the '08 festival. Then on the 13th we will review the brochure and get it to print for release after the first of the year. Ute Mountain Mesa Verde Birding Festival 2008 is bigger yet, with four full days of tours.

Tuesday morning the Mesa Verde Lecture Series group meets at Ft Lewis to organize the 2008 lectures.

The December Wine Club is meeting this month at the Millwood in Mancos. They are closing for us from 6 to 8 p.m. and will offer dinner before and after. Please RSVP to Brenda at 565-1151. French wines will be featured.

Carla Fox is hosting another Shamans workshop here at the Center Thursday the 6th and Sunday the 9th.

Mesa Verde National Park's open house is the 6th at 4 p.m.

Last weekend we were the host of the Annual Christmas Crafts Fair at the County Annex. We had 50 vendors (full) and counted 675 people coming through the door.

Some things to watch for: The Chamber Business After Hours at Citizens State Bank is Thursday the 13th, Let's Dance is hosting a "SnowBall" at the Legion on the 15th, The Annual Christmas Bird Count is the 26th, The ParrotHead Party is set for Saturday the 12th of January, the Chamber's annual banquet is the 26th of January, The SweetHeart Ball and Art Auction is Feb. 16th.

B&B Construction is working in the dance plaza here at the Cortez Cultural Center to get the sound and light tower framed in before bad weather really hits. They are also working on the southwest corner of the building problem which was water. That is why the tree had to come down.

Membership to the Cultural Center is always a good Christmas present. Please remember to shop locally and to include the gift shop here at the center. We have new merchandise just for you Christmas shoppers. Our December sale starts Saturday the first with a 25 percent discount on most items for members and 15 percent discount for nonmembers. Another good reason to join. Donations at this time of the year are a tax advantage. We are a 501 c3.
